Award winning Business Student, Jamie Hawthorne, began his three months work experience with Sherry Textiles in July this year.
Jamie, a Business Student at the University of Liverpool, has previous experience in internet service delivery and hopes to gain experience in sales, customer interface, warehousing, stock management and marketing.
Jamie said, 'I am really looking forward to working with the sales team at Sherry Textiles as their knowledge of this industry sector is considerable. I have already been contacting Spa, Hairdressing and Beauty customers who use our salon towels and hospitality linen and I am looking at ways to encourage sales of towels and linen through our new website.'
It could be a busy summer for Jamie!

January 2009Launch of New Linen Supplies Website
Our new website with great design and ease of ordering make the purchase of linen supplies, towels and bedding simple and cost effective.
At Sherry textiles we continue to improve customer service, with a move to e-commerce linen sales being the natural next step. This will give those with responsibility in business for linen purchasing, a straight forward solution to re-ordering at a time to suit them much as we love our work we do go home between 5pm and 9am!
Sherry Textiles website, Linensupplies.co.uk, carries an extensive range of Hotel linens, towels, bedding and other hospitality linen including the much sought after Fire Resistant poly-cotton bedding ranges.
Now available to order 24 hours a day we hope that customers will appreciate the convenience of ordering at a time to suit their already busy schedules. But, of course, our sales team and office staff are still available during the day to answer any enquiries about our stock of bedding, hospitality linen, table linen and towels and to discuss any particular personalised linen requirements.
A high priority has been given to customer security and the website uses the industry standard, Protx payment gateway allowing customers to have full confidence when using payment cards.

October 2008Sherry Textiles Welcomes New Operations Director
Sherry Textiles is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Operations Director, Gary Lomas. Gary has worked in linen distribution for many years and brings a vast knowledge of linen purchase, supply and distribution to the growing team at Sherry Textiles. Gary says that he is keen to begin work, implementing changes to the warehousing, distribution and supply of linen from the company’s new Pendle base.

September 2008Sherry Textiles on the Move
After more than 30 years manufacturing and then trading from Stockbridge Mill in Padiham, Sherry Textiles is on the move and will make its new base in Pendle.
The traditional north light mill was designed with weaving sheds for manufacturing and J & M Sherry Textiles manufactured and supplied towels on the site for almost a quarter of a century. But traditional weaving sheds and modern warehousing methods do not sit well together so a move to modern warehousing suitable for the continued growth of the company was necessary.
Managing Director, David Hawthorne, has high hopes that the move to the new site on Lomeshaye Industrial Estate will benefit customers, ‘The modern warehousing facility and increased capacity will allow an even greater stock availability for customers wanting to purchase linen products from us. We hope that customers will see an improvement in choice and service when they place their order’.
Two new jobs have already been created at the Pendle site and it is hoped that there will be more opportunities to employ locally in the future.

May 2008Sale of J & M Sherry Textiles
Local Lancashire Textile Company, J & M Sherry Textiles is to change hands after more than 30 years of business in Padiham, Lancashire.
Brothers John and Michael Sherry, using their working knowledge of the Lancashire Weaving Industry, began the small weaving enterprise in 1975 and soon established themselves as quality towel manufacturers and suppliers of fine linen.
In recent years, responding to changes in the market place, manufacturing has gradually been replaced by linen supply using selected sources from around the world.
The textile company has been acquired by local business men, David Hawthorne and Geoffrey Hall, who bring a wealth of textile sales knowledge and industrial experience into J &M Sherry Textiles.
David observed, ‘The first yarn I ever sold was to Michael and John when they were still weaving and I was a keen young salesman. Its great to have the opportunity to take over a company with a traditional weaving background and continue to grow the business into the 21st century’.
Although the Sherry’s Mill Shop is no longer open, there are no planned staff changes in the linen supply and distribution sector of the business with Michael and John Sherry postponing their retirement to ensure the business passes smoothly into new ownership.
